Bolinas Surf Lessons, the premiere surf school in the Bay Area, was established in 1998 by Nick Krieger. Nick grew up surfing in Bolinas and quickly stood out as an exceptional surfer.

Prior to starting Bolinas Surf Lessons, Nick worked in the surf industry and as a Head Lifeguard, which taught him the importance and techniques of ocean safety. This unique background, coupled with Nick's positive attitude and love of surfing, inspired him to begin giving surf lessons. Nick's infectious enthusiasm and endearing patience quickly made him a favorite with all his students.

Bolinas Surf Lessons has continued to grow and thrive as a result of Nick's desire to share his love of surfing with others.

Nick's passion for surfing has not diminished since he made it his business. In recent years he has surfed in Baja, mainland Mexico, Hawaii, Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, Costa Rica, Barbados, Java, Bali, Japan, Long Island, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Florida.

Ian Mac Laird
Ian Mac Laird, Bolinas Surf Lessons head instructor brings over 15 years of local surfing knowledge to every surf lesson. Ian will likely be your instructor for a group lesson. Ian was born and raised in Bolinas and started playing on the beach and in the water before he could walk. Ian is indisputably one of the best surfers living in Bolinas, but you would never know it because of his humble down to earth attitude. Ian is one of the kindest hearted and patient people you will ever meet and thinks the waves of his home brake are perfect for anyone learning to surf as long as they respect the ocean, the beach and the other surfers in the water. Ian is available for lessons during the week or on weekends in the summer (only) and is the right choice for any lesson.

Jason Gittens
With over 25 years of surfing experience, Jason brings a dynamic level of experience to your lessons. Growing up in the Venice Beach area of Southern California (Dog Town), Jason's surfing was heavily influenced by the rip and shred, skateboard style of surfing which was invented by local heroes like Jay Adams, the McClure brothers and Randy Wright. In the early 90's Jason left Venice beach to travel the world in search of adventure and surf. His quest led him through Baja, Mainland Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, Barbados, Florida, Road Island, Massachusetts and eventually, Marin County where he has lived since 1996. Jason loves the central location of Marin. On any given day he can find good surf less than an hours drive from his house. One of those surf spots is Bolinas which Jason loves for is consistent offshore winds and calm ocean conditions. If he isn't surfing in Bolinas for fun he's showing people the ropes in a surf lesson. Jason has been teaching people to surf in Bolinas for over 6 years and may be your instructor for a private or private group lessons. You won't find a surf instructor that is more enthusiastic and fun.

Cooper Differding
Bolinas Surf Lessons newest instructor Cooper Differding was also born and raised in Bolinas and has been surfing the local waters for over 10 years. Cooper learned to surf as an early teen and was encouraged by older local surfers like Ian and Nick. This encouragement along with his dedication and love for surfing has helped him develop in to one of Bolinas's top surfers. Cooper understands how much of a difference proper guidance and encouragement can make and will pass on his love for surfing during your private or private group lesson.
